Today I met my surveyor, Peter Hunt (who I very highly recommend!) to survey the Catalina 36 I hope to buy. It went really well. The boat is in a great a condition as it looks! He did find a few issues as I would expect with a boat built in 1986 however overall nothing major and definitely nothing that would cause me to walk away from it. A few areas of deck core issues but surprisingly little compared to other boats of this age. The most issues were with aged hoses on the motor. The biggest repair is a leak on the dry exhaust which will require removing an enormous blob of spray foam someone added surrounding it. During the survey he would show me things and I would answer with “well, if I buy this boat…” Near the end of the survey he jumped up into the v-birth, laid down, rolled over and said, “Oh you’re buying this boat! These cushions are like brand new!” He didn’t help discourage me!
